Colt Starting

A brief overview of our colt starting, including photos, video captures and descriptions.

All colts are started with basic groundwork, manners, and saddling. Usually ridden the next day, some the first day. The first ride is very important! The rider needs to learn to stay out of the horses way until the horse becomes comfortable just carrying the rider.

  Chinook and Sid are doing great after their session with Scott. I was offered a spot at a clinic Scott was holding not far from where I live. My two year old Morgan gelding Simon was in need of some work so I jumped at the chance. Scott discussed with me what I was looking at getting accomplished with Simon and then worked him in the round pen. Simon has had a pretty cushy life since coming to me almost a year ago.

  I have played with Simon but not really worked him. Scott did some rope work, paying attention to the back feet, as I was having trouble trimming Simon's back feet. More...
